In mid-July, the love of my life and his parental units settled into mid-Californian life and tore up some tourist sites. During this time, I went to Boston. Some of my favorite people in the world are currently living there and so I went for an 11 day trip. I visited with Rachel on two separate occasions (beginning and end). I was a guest camp counselor at camp Klein, went to the awesome science museum, enjoyed sleeping in until 11 am and forced Rachel to watch trashy TV (which she liked. Who doesn’t?). I have no photos from that experience, but I can refer you to her blog.
My brother picked me up from Rachel’s place and I spent the weekend with his family. We went to the farm, saw movies, went to the children’s museum and ate many fast food meals. It was here that I rediscovered a dormant love for Taco Bell. Living in California makes TB seem like an abomination, and I hadn’t been to one for a very long time. Their menu is lengthy and confusing. I have no idea how a person is supposed to walk in and order within 10 minutes, but they have added a delicious item since I last patronized that establishment—potato burritos! They are fried potatoes wrapped in a tortilla, smothered in French dressing and sprinkled with lettuce—a total dream.
The third leg of my Boston trip was spent in Scituate, MA at Kendra’s house. We went to the beach, played games, and (I) drank copious amounts of Dunkin Donuts beverages. The last day I was there, the town was setting up carnival rides for a small fair. I really love celebratory places (like carnivals) when they are completely abandoned (during the day, mostly). Have I told you one of my favorite movies is night of the comet? I’ve yet to meet anyone who’s actually seen that movie (that isn’t related to me). And I did indeed read The Passage this summer.
