wake up in the morning, eat some grits, hit the studio, make some hits

I know I’m supposed to love the 101--highway of pretty vistas, trees and ocean. For some reason, though, I love taking the I-5 through the central valley. It’s probably the CA trip I have done the most and every time it happens, I get filled with excitement. American culture is written into that drive—water rights and the misuse of nature, the globalization of corporate culture and its propaganda, poverty and immigration, red state within a blue. It’s hard not to be contemplative while driving that stretch of watered desert from the bay area to the grapevine, listening to Horchata by Vampire Weekend on a continuous loop. This summer, I took pictures along the way.
