adventures in parenting

Well, Theo's croup went from bad to worse, necessitating two visits to the doctor today, with one of them in the ER. He got a steroid shot, which made him cough non-stop and start throwing up (all over my dress and our cheap IKEA couch--Eh). Since it was super scary and he literally did not stop coughing for over an hour, we took him to the ER, where he got nebulized. Natan and I were not that successful at doing it because, at 32 pounds, he is very strong and was able to twist and turn his body away from the nebulizing mask. It was pretty awful, but he did get some coughing relief and is now sleeping. He was so exhausted in the hospital that he fell asleep while we were talking to the doctor. This also made me think of how much one needs a village to assist in child rearing. We have one child, but what will we do when his brother is here? Would we take his brother to the hospital too? People should not live away from their families.
