I saw “An Education” today, which was a little depressing (everyone is average!), but good (everyone is average and that’s OK! Plus, the life of the mind is better than nice furs). I liked seeing Olivia Williams (from The 6th Sense and my personal favorite, Rushmore) as a Cambridge-educated English teacher. It reminded me of the excitement and hope that’s present when we’re young. Not to say that it’s not there in adulthood, but by that point, it’s mitigated by a bit more reality and resignation, making it not as all-encompassing as when in childhood.
After the movie, I got a good coffee and ran into one of my coworkers walking her dog, which felt very homey.
